The Society Meets Again To Discuss Seeds
Greetings to all members of the Society for the Preservation and Propagation of Old-Time Gardening Wisdom, Lore, and Superstition (SPPOTGWLS or “the Society”)Following are the minutes of our last meeting in which there was a rousing debate amongst those members who regularly sow seeds and those members who generally do not sow seeds.I, your self-proclaimed President of the SPPOTGWLS, did my best to keep order and prevent an outright melee from breaking out between the two groups, which I will … [Read more...] about The Society Meets Again To Discuss Seeds
New Seed Tricks And A Seed Giveaway
This old gardener learned some new seed tricks this spring!(Yes, I can call myself “this old gardener” since I was inducted officially into SGAFO – Society of Gardeners Age Fifty and Over – earlier this winter. Seed Racks Don’t Have To Cost A Fortune
Don’t you just love it when you think you got a good deal?I thought it was a good deal to get two hyacinth blooms out of one bulb. These seed racks are basic plastic shelves, with each shelf holding one and a half flats. I hung the light fixtures with some … [Read more...] about Seed Racks Don’t Have To Cost A Fortune

But I know some gardeners who buy plants, set them behind some shrubs or off to one side, and then promptly … [Read more...] about Managing More than 50 Seed Packets
Seed Buying Secrets
What would you call the love of buying and sowing seeds?I would call it sporosphilia, using the Greek word “sporos” for seed and “philia” for love. Conversely, I would call the fear of seeds, sporosphobia. (which should not to be confused with kipourikosphobia, the fear of gardening.)I love sowing seeds, so I guess that makes me part of that subclass of gardeners that could be referred to as sporosphiliacs. To date, I have purchased 69 packets of seeds. That’s one more packet than last year when … [Read more...] about Seed Buying Secrets
