I finished ordering all my seeds for this season last night. Altogether I purchased… Well, a gardener never tells! However, it appears that to date I haven’t purchased as many seeds as I did last year. But there is still snow on the ground and plenty of time to buy more seeds. When, or I suppose if, I decide I need more seeds, I think I’ll buy them at one of the local garden centers. I do need to make a list of all the seeds I have and carry it with it at all times. Then when, or … [Read more...] about Seed Update
As Cicero is quoted as saying, “If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.” I would add that if you have a vegetable garden and a book about how to grow vegetables, then you have all that you need to at least enjoy some delicious produce that you grew yourself. Yes, good, I need a packet of those, and oh, look, there’s ‘Kentucky Wonder’ Pole Beans. I think my aunt said those were here favorites, so I’ll get some of those. Yes, check, I need ‘Cherry Belle’ radishes. And there are those ‘Trusty’ tomatoes. That’s what I really want. Might as well try this … [Read more...] about Random Acts of Seed Purchasing
I am about to reveal to all those who have to write the thousands of descriptions for all those varieties of seeds in all those seed catalogs how to get me to buy their seeds. Tell me a story about them. Connect them to a person. That’s the hook for me. Yes, after twenty plus years of buying seeds, I’ve just figured out that I prefer seeds that are connected to a person, that have a story behind them. When I read about a tomato variety that is “German type, full, hearty beefsteak”, yawn, I … [Read more...] about How To Get Me To Buy A Seed Variety.
