My Newest Hoe is a Spork

May 27, 2011 By Carol Michel 7 Comments

I got a new hoe several weeks ago from the Garden Tool Co. How I came to get this new hoe is a testament to the connections you can make with others of like mind on Twitter and Facebook. The folks at the Garden Tool Co. found out about my hoe collection via a tweet I sent out on Twitter, checked it out, didn't see a hoe like the spork hoe and offered to send me one. I accepted their offer because I like hoes. I like to use them in the garden. I have a collection of hoes. I generally can … [Read more...] about My Newest Hoe is a Spork

Book Review: Grow the Good Life

February 21, 2011 By Carol Michel 10 Comments

Oh, the angst! I put down the book and looked out the window. Still winter! I checked the calendar. Still winter! I picked up the book again and continued reading. I put it down again and gazed out the window across the garden to where I grow vegetables. Still winter! What book has lead me to this state of agitation, impatience, and sheer longing to go out and plant my peas, lettuce, onion sets, and radishes a month before I should? Grow the Good Life by Michele Owens (2011, Rodale, … [Read more...] about Book Review: Grow the Good Life

Troy-Bilt Snow Thrower Review Part II – Throwing Snow

February 19, 2011 By Carol Michel Leave a Comment

After every snowfall this winter, friends and co-workers have asked me, "Did you use your new snow thrower? My answer was always the same, "No, not yet because...". Sometimes it was dark when I got home, and I really wanted to use it for the first time when it was light out. Other times, I didn't think there was quite enough snow to justify using such a large snow thrower, so I used my smaller snow blower instead. But truth be told, I was just a little bit afraid of such a large gas-powered … [Read more...] about Troy-Bilt Snow Thrower Review Part II – Throwing Snow

Brighten Up Your Day with A Flower Bouquet Giveaway

December 26, 2010 By Carol Michel 89 Comments

When the weather outside looks like this: And someone who calls himself SunflowerGuy sends you an email offering the chance to receive a bouquet of fresh flowers to review, you can't help but say "yes". When the box arrives at work a few days later, more than a few co-workers were curious about it, eager to see what was inside it. After all, it is not every day that a colorful box of flowers arrives in the office mixed in with all the white and brown boxes that we seem to get regularly. I … [Read more...] about Brighten Up Your Day with A Flower Bouquet Giveaway

Jollys Garden Shoes Giveaway

December 1, 2010 By Carol Michel 86 Comments

I got a brand new pair of shoes the other day and I wore them to mow the grass within days of getting them. Brand new shoes. I wore them to mow the grass. And I didn’t even hear voices in my head telling me not to do it. I did it on purpose. How else was I going to decide if I loved the Jollys Fashion Garden Shoes as much as I love my Jollys Classic Garden Shoes? I am a long time fan of Jollys garden shoes. I got my first pair of Jollys Classic Garden Shoes, upper left corner, about … [Read more...] about Jollys Garden Shoes Giveaway

Troy-Bilt Snow Thrower Review Part 1 – Putting It Together

November 22, 2010 By Carol Michel 3 Comments

The Troy-Bilt Storm 3090 XP Snow Thrower arrived here at May Dreams Gardens late this morning. It came on a big truck with a lift gate, sitting in a big red box on top of a wooden pallet. The driver carefully moved it on to the truck gate, lowered it on to the ground and set it in place in the garage. Ta da!  I'm ready for a big snow now! Well, almost ready. First I had to unbox it and assemble it. Step one, was to remove the staples from the top, fold down the flaps and remove the … [Read more...] about Troy-Bilt Snow Thrower Review Part 1 – Putting It Together
