My new Corona® Garden Hoe and I cleaned up the vegetable garden earlier today. It didn’t take too long. The plants had mostly dried up before being hit with a bit of frost a few days ago. I easily pulled up the peppers, tomatoes, squash, and corn plants and tossed them on the compost bin. Then I used the new hoe to knock down the weeds and smooth the raised beds. I was surprised at how hard packed the soil was in the raised beds, even though no one ever walks on them… much. But the new … [Read more...] about My new Corona® Hoe and I cleaned up the vegetable garden
Garden gate in garden in Dallas, Texas Sometimes gardeners who read my blog and then meet me in person will confess to me that they have never used a hoe in their garden. Some will admit to not even owning a hoe. Depending on my mood, I might feign shock and surprise that these hoe-less people have the nerve to call themselves gardeners. Other times, I nod my head in understanding. I’ve gardened long enough to realize that a hoe is a helpful gardening tool in some gardens, but is not an … [Read more...] about Reprise: Six Garden Lessons From Hoes
The gardening universe seems to always provide me with just the right hoe for whatever it is I’m going to do in my garden next. And what I was going to do, and did, in my garden next, yesterday evening, was use my new Fork Hoe from easydigging.com to scrape back the four to five inches of mulch covering the planting bed so that I could transplant a large Helleborus and several clumps of Hosta that the “patio guys” had very nicely dug up for me. For a brief period of time, I thought I'd lost my new hoe●dag®, the very hoe●dag® I recently reviewed and professed my love for. It happened this evening. Short version of the review: I’ve got a new hoe, called a hoe●dag, and I love it. Long version of the review: I first heard rumors of this “hoe●dag” hand hoe via Mary Ann, from Gardens of the Wild, Wild West. When I found out that this hoe really did exist, I wrote a little email to the maker of it to introduce myself and present my hoeing credentials and ask if they had one I could try out and review. Within a few days, I had my own hoe●dag®. As soon as I took it out of the box, I almost … [Read more...] about The Hoe●Dag® Review
Through Twitter, email and other social media sites, I have been made acutely aware that many gardeners have already started to get seed catalogs in the mail.I, on the other hand, have not yet received any seed catalogs and am starting to feel as though I have been inexplicably dropped from the seed companies' mailing lists. I wonder, ever so briefly, how this could be because I order as many seeds, if not more, than most gardeners. I order so many packets of seeds that I use an Excel … [Read more...] about No Seed Catalogs Means Hoe Movie Time!
