Gardening Tool Week: Sharp Tools

August 4, 2006 By Carol Michel 3 Comments

Things are improving around here at May Dreams Gardens. The heat has moved out and we had some rain this afternoon and earlier this evening. So far, one quarter of an inch of rain here, which I'll take, and as an added bonus, there is a japanese beetle trapped in the rain gauge. That's one less beetle eating on my flowers! If the weather clears up enough, and it probably will, I may be able to go out and do some light deadheading before dark. And what will I use? Something sharp, no doubt. So, … [Read more...] about Gardening Tool Week: Sharp Tools

Gardening Tool Week: Hand Rakes and More

August 3, 2006 By Carol Michel 1 Comment

Yes, it is still hot outside, though the weatherman says that we should cool down over night and tomorrow, but with the cool down there is a chance of rain and severe storms. I'll take the rain, and so will the plants! In the meantime, while it is hot, Gardening Tool Week goes on and on. Today it's hand rakes, cultivators and weeders. These are my hand weeders. I don't apologize for having three of essentially the same tool. Today's theme: Specialty Trowels. So, as I went from garden center to garden center and browsed through catalogs, I was bound to find some specialty trowels and decide that somehow life in the garden just wouldn't be the same without them. After all, how can one … [Read more...] about Gardening Tool Week: Specialty Trowels

Gardening Tool Week: Evolution of the Trowel

July 31, 2006 By Carol Michel 4 Comments

Because it is so hot this week, practically everywhere, I've declared it to be Gardening Tool Week. It's just too hot to take pictures of plants, they just wouldn't be at their best. But tools, they look good in any weather. So let Gardening Tool Week begin with this post about the Evolution of the Trowel, at least in my gardening life. When I was little and wanted to do some digging in the garden, I would ask my mom for a spoon, and she would provide one for me. I don't think we ate with these … [Read more...] about Gardening Tool Week: Evolution of the Trowel

New Hoe

June 26, 2006 By Carol Michel 1 Comment

My New Hoe! Meet Rogue Hoe Dog!My new hoe came today! That's it in the picture. I've dubbed it "Rogue Hoe Dog" because the tag said Rogue Hoe D00 and to my eyes that looked like "dog". And I think this is a good one. I took it out for test spin in a pretty good patch of weeds this evening and it did a great job cutting them down. Here it is resting proudly on the pile of weeds that it helped me chop down in just a few minutes.I think the reason this hoe is different from some of the other hoes … [Read more...] about New Hoe
