Hortense Hoelove Answers Questions About Snow and Ice

February 3, 2011 By Carol Michel 13 Comments

Dear Hortense Hoelove, What do you think is going on in this picture? Simply, Snow White Dear Snow, Oh, that's an easy one. The snow is alive and those are its varicose veins. Actually, I'm kidding and hopefully you knew that. The snow is not alive. I suspect those are the trails of meadow voles frolicking under the snow while eating all the roots they can get to. I'm so very glad you sent me this picture and I didn't take it in my own yard! Hortifully, Hortense Dear Hortense, Which … [Read more...] about Hortense Hoelove Answers Questions About Snow and Ice

Dear Hortense Hoelove: Does This Drought Make Me Look Fat?

November 20, 2010 By Carol Michel 7 Comments

Dear Hortense Hoelove, I think the drought made me gain weight. I used to mow the lawn at least once a week for exercise and then when it stopped raining, I didn't mow for two months. Plus, it was so danged hot out that I didn't try to go outside and move around. Gosh, chocolate tastes good in the summer time, and during fall days, too. Signed, Never Bend Over With Your Bum Toward the Street Dear Bum, And what is your question? Hortense recommends you begin your winter exercise program … [Read more...] about Dear Hortense Hoelove: Does This Drought Make Me Look Fat?

October 1, 2010 By Carol Michel 7 Comments

Hortense Hoelove takes over to answer a few questions while I take a brief break from Hortus sanus. Dear Hortense Hoelove, I got up this morning and heard on the news that there was a field that caught on fire about a mile from here because it was so dry. What should I do? Signed, Parched Pansies Dear Parched, For garden’s sake, water your plants! Sincerely, Hortense Hoelove Dear Hortense Hoelove, Now that it is October, can I expect any rain on my garden? September was the 4th … [Read more...] about Hortense Answers Questions While I Take a Break

Three For Thursday

August 19, 2010 By Carol Michel 7 Comments

There was much excitement here at May Dreams Gardens when others became aware that I was going to join in for Three for Thursday hosted by Cindy at My Corner of Katy. Excitement might not be the right word for it, though. It was more like bickering and arguing. The garden fairies found out about this post topic and thought they should write the post because they haven’t posted in awhile. They said they had three important pieces of advice for gardeners, having to do with misplaced tools, … [Read more...] about Three For Thursday

April 17, 2010 By Carol Michel 6 Comments

Hortense Hoelove has returned this spring to answer important gardening questions for the plant-lorn and other gardeners! Dear Hortense Hoelove, Can dirt get old? You know, that dirt in containers, does it get old? Respectfully, Lori Lovestogarden Dear Lori, Why, yes indeed, just like everything else, including you and me unfortunately, dirt, or potting soil as some would call it, can get old, worn out, and depleted in containers. If it is small container, dump all that old stuff out, give … [Read more...] about Hortense Answers Spring Gardening Questions
