Green Thumb Sunday – Snow In Summer

April 29, 2007 By Carol Michel 5 Comments

I'm referring to the flowers, not the weather! Cerastium tomentosum, Snow-in-summer. It's a beautiful day, not a snowflake in sight, except for this snow-in-summer.Join … [Read more...] about Green Thumb Sunday – Snow In Summer

Green Thumb Sunday – Blue

March 18, 2007 By Carol Michel 15 Comments

Is blue really that difficult to photograph with digital cameras? 'Back in the day', when people used film in their cameras, whenever someone showed slides or pictures of a blue flower they would always preface it by saying that the camera didn't do justice to the blue of the flower.I'm not sure that's true any more. I took a picture of this pansy earlier today and I think it turned out pretty good. When I compare the picture on my screen to the real thing, it is pretty close. Green Thumb Sunday – Hole in the Garden

March 4, 2007 By Carol Michel 17 Comments

Who dug this hole in one of my raised beds in the vegetable garden? Who? It was not me. Winter be gone!Join By the way, I just noticed … [Read more...] about Green Thumb Sunday – Hole in the Garden

February 25, 2007 By Carol Michel 3 Comments

Stenosarcos Vanguard - Hybrid variegated leaf orchid, (Sarcoglottis speciosus x Stenorrhynchos speciosum). This is one of the plants I noted was blooming at my house for the 1st monthly garden bloggers’ bloom day.Though the days are getting longer, winter still seems to have a firm grip in our area. Last night we experienced rain, freezing rain, pelting snow (not that soft falling snow that makes no sound, but the kind of snow that comes down hard and loud like rain), slush, and more rain. So … [Read more...] about Green Thumb Sunday – Orchids, Movies, Other Gardening Blogs and Directories

Green Thumb Sunday – Week 7 – Final Week for Hyacinth

February 18, 2007 By Carol Michel 6 Comments

Outside, there is a foot of snow, but inside my hyacinths are all in full bloom, both pink and blue. At times, sitting just around the corner 10 feet from them, the scent is almost overbearing but it is better than the smell of snow boots drying in the back hallway.Remember that first picture, 7 weeks ago? I've never had a "crop failure" when forcing hyacinths, but after posting the picture below, I did momentarily consider what I would do if these bulbs did nothing but sit there. How would I … [Read more...] about Green Thumb Sunday – Week 7 – Final Week for Hyacinth
