Gardeners are nice everywhere!

March 18, 2019 By Carol Michel Leave a Comment

Check off Michigan as another state where the gardeners are just as nice as you could imagine! They join Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Iowa, and Florida on the list of states I've spoken in where the gardeners have been the nicest people. Ha. No, I will not rank those states in order from nicest to really nicest to the absolute nicest. I am no fool! So, back to Michigan. Every year, the staff of the Taylor Conservator and Botanical Garden host the Growing Great Gardens symposium which … [Read more...] about Gardeners are nice everywhere!

Would you like to watch some movies with me?

February 8, 2019 By Carol Michel 5 Comments

Would you like to watch some movies with me? I will warn you, no matter the movie, if there are plants or scenes with plants, I will be intently checking those out and may forget what else the movie is actually about. I do love a good movie that features either gardeners or plants. I won't bother to list them all here. You can use any search engine and type in terms like "movies about plants" or "movies with gardeners" and come up with a lovely, curated list that will get you started. Whoever … [Read more...] about Would you like to watch some movies with me?

August 31, 2016 By Carol Michel 12 Comments

I believe I have the qualifications and experience to provide a list of ten clues to determine if you might have an eccentric gardener living next door to you. Now, don't spend too much time trying to figure out how I can provide such a list.  Just go through the list and answer yes or no about your neighbors. And as you go through the list, you might also see if any of these ten clues apply to you. If so, you might be that eccentric gardener the other neighbors are talking about. The … [Read more...] about List of ten clues to determine if you might have an eccentric gardener living next door

Carry your garden with you

September 3, 2015 By Carol Michel 7 Comments

You can't hold the scent of a garden in your hands, but you can carry it with you wherever you go. It's almost like a riddle. What can you carry without holding it in your hands? Your garden, of course. How it smells. How it looks. The pleasure it gives us. We carry it in our thoughts. We carry it in our hearts. We carry it in our conversations with others.  Someone will ask an innocent  question like "how are you". And we'll respond we are fine and you should see my zinnias right … [Read more...] about Carry your garden with you

Are you a scattershot gardener or a bullseye gardener?

November 21, 2014 By Carol Michel 15 Comments

Do you know the difference between scattershot gardeners and bullseye gardeners? The difference is focus. Scattershot gardeners like all kinds of plants and flowers.  They are likely to buy a plant they've never heard of because they saw it, liked it, and immediately felt they could not possibly have a garden without it. Scattershot gardeners grow a little of everything in their gardens. They plant whatever strikes their fancy. Every once in a while, someone will become a bullseye … [Read more...] about Are you a scattershot gardener or a bullseye gardener?
