Welcome to Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day for November 2021. Here in my USDA Hardiness Zone 6a garden in Central Indiana, the first snow of the season fell on the morning of November 14th. Even with the snow, the last of the autumn crocuses, featured in my last post, are still pretty bits of color, leftover flowers from the late autumn. Out in the front garden, the last of the Sorbet violas are still blooming. I'm letting them fade out and go to seed. I'm hoping for their return in … [Read more...] about Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – November 2021

Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – October 2021
Welcome to Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day for October 2021. Here in my USDA Hardiness Zone 6a garden in central Indiana, I thought I would have the usual mid-fall flowers to show off, like these mums that I no longer know the name of. But I know they return to this spot each year, stay fairly short, and bloom profusely. Then what was that I caught a whiff of? An iris? Yes, an iris. Just a good ol' blue iris that grows with mostly neglect. I can only surmise that the garden fairies … [Read more...] about Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – October 2021
Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – September 2021
Welcome to Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day for September 2021. Here in my USDA hardiness Zone 6a garden in central Indiana, the colchicums are up and flowering. They are a nice, bright surprise, blooming where little else is showing color. These are multiplying enough that next spring, I may dig and divide them in the green and put some in my front garden. Because when flowers like these bloom in my front garden in the fall, my neighbors mistake them for the crocuses that bloom in the spring … [Read more...] about Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – September 2021
Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – August 2021
Welcome to Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day for August 2021. Here in my USDA Hardiness Zone 6a garden in central Indiana, USA, we were enjoying rain when we needed it... until a few weeks ago. Now, we could use a bit of rain, and that's what we've gotten. An early morning rain shower brought .15 inches to my garden, prior to that any rain has been just enough to wet the ground. Anyway, let's move on from the Surprise Lilies, Lycoris squamigera, pictured above, which have been blooming … [Read more...] about Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – August 2021
Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – July 2021
Welcome to Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day for July 2021. Here in my USDA Hardiness Zone 6a garden in central Indiana, mid-summer is bringing more clematis blooms, including these little flowers on Clematis x triternata 'Rubromarginata'. I think it's one of my favorites! It's going to have some competition soon from another clematis, Clematis heracleifolia 'Mrs. Robert Brydon'. Both of these clematis are what I call scampering vines. I've provided a support structure, of sorts, for both … [Read more...] about Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – July 2021
Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – June 2021
Greetings on a lovely Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day in June! If you don’t love a garden in June, will you ever love it? Here in my USDA Hardiness Zone 6a garden in central Indiana, I'm pleased to have enjoyed a beautiful spring, so far. We've gotten just enough rain, and until a few days ago, the temperatures have been mostly mild. I realize it hasn't been that way for many others. I count my blessings and my flowers! That includes the two lavenders pictured above. I wish I … [Read more...] about Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – June 2021
