Welcome to Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day for May 2022. Here in my USDA Hardiness Zone 6a garden in central Indiana, it's suddenly hot like summer after a spring that never seemed to warm up. Now everyone and every plant seems to be in a big hurry to get settled before real summer arrives. I thought at one point that I'd try to see how many different pictures I could take that included violas in some form or fashion, like the picture above which includes columbine (Aquilegia sp.), Viola … [Read more...] about Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day – May 2022

Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – April 2022
Welcome to Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day for April 2022. Here in my USDA Hardiness Zone 6a garden in central Indiana, we are enjoying—experiencing?—enduring?—a slow spring. Slow is good in some respects. It gives everyone more time to enjoy the flowers, like these Epimediums, variety unknown. I like to call them Fairy Wings, though most people call them Bishop's Hats. Elsewhere in the garden, the daffodils have been putting on a fine, lovely, and long show, and now the tulips are … [Read more...] about Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – April 2022
Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – March 2022
Welcome to Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day for March 2022. Here in my USDA Hardiness Zone 6a garden in central Indiana, I am pleased to report that spring flowers are popping up every day. I am not pleased to report that after several lovely spring days, winter returned a few days ago with temperatures in the teens. "Brrrr," said the flowers. But for the most part, most of them, like these little 'Pickwick' crocuses did just fine and showed little damage once it warmed up … [Read more...] about Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – March 2022
Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – February 2022
Welcome to Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day for February 2022. Here in my USDA Hardiness Zone 6a garden in central Indiana, all thoughts that we might escape winter with mild weather have been blown away by cold winds and a true winter snowstorm a week or so ago. Before that eight or so inches of snow arrived, I had hopes of showing off in mid-February with the earliest crocuses, maybe some fully open snowdrops. Perhaps even a reticulated iris. But instead, all I have to offer is a lily of … [Read more...] about Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – February 2022
Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – January 2022
Welcome to Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day for January 2022, and Happy New Year. Here in my USDA Hardiness Zone 6a garden in central Indiana, winter has so far been mild, though we did have several days of temperatures dropping down into the single digits last week. So I knew my attempts to find blooms outside would be much like an archeological dig. I found mostly fragments of the past growing season, like these dried hydrangea flowers. And these tall sedum blooms. These look great … [Read more...] about Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – January 2022
Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – November 2021
Welcome to Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day for November 2021. Here in my USDA Hardiness Zone 6a garden in Central Indiana, the first snow of the season fell on the morning of November 14th. Even with the snow, the last of the autumn crocuses, featured in my last post, are still pretty bits of color, leftover flowers from the late autumn. Out in the front garden, the last of the Sorbet violas are still blooming. I'm letting them fade out and go to seed. I'm hoping for their return in … [Read more...] about Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – November 2021
