Basil, Tall and Leafy

August 23, 2019 By Carol Michel 4 Comments

Ladies and gentleman, fellow gardeners. This trial plant of 'Everleaf Emerald Towers' Basil has been growing in an 8 inch clay pot on my patio all summer, reaching a height of over 27 inches, with no flowers. Basil lovers everywhere. Let me repeat. No flowers.  All summer. And no pinching to get that nice straight up growth. And no downy mildew. Update: And it tastes great too. I am most assuredly going to grow this basil again next year when it is introduced to the market. Please, … [Read more...] about Basil, Tall and Leafy

Where You Been, Carol?

January 31, 2019 By Carol Michel 4 Comments

Swipe... that's me dusting this blog off and preparing to write a post, long over-due! My humble apologies for leaving this blog without new content for the last ten days. I know I have some followers and friends who only see me here. I must remember that! I have all kinds of excuses on why I haven't posted. Would you like to read some of them? The polar vortex! Geez it has been cold, both yesterday and this morning. That accounts for a day and a half, though, which were/are obviously indoor … [Read more...] about Where You Been, Carol?

The Mowing Lady

February 6, 2018 By Carol Michel 4 Comments

She hurried across the lawn, doing her best to not trip over her flowing white skirt. Oh, how she hated to be late for anything, especially when it was her turn to mow the lawn. When she reached the garden shed, she threw open the doors and grabbed the handles of her mower, which she affectionately called Forest. "Forest," she said, "please don't be balky today. I haven't got time to play your funny little mowing games."  With that plea, she pulled Forest out of the shed … [Read more...] about The Mowing Lady

Dear Garden Blog…

January 25, 2017 By Carol Michel 9 Comments

Hellebores, what would winter be without them? Dearest Garden Blog, I'm writing to offer my apologies for neglecting you for over a week. It was not my intention to leave you with no new updates for such a long time but time slipped away from me. Rest assured, of course, that I have not been blogging elsewhere. I would never do that to you, my faithful blog who has been with me for well over ten years. What would I do without you? Where would I post my thoughts on gardening? Sure, there are … [Read more...] about Dear Garden Blog…

Has it really been 12 years?

September 26, 2016 By Carol Michel 9 Comments

Asters were also blooming in my garden 12 years ago I was looking through some old blog posts earlier today, digging down deep into the past when I reached the very first post on this blog, published on September 26, 2004 and realized today is my blog's 12th anniversary. In honor of this occasion, I'm turning my blog over, once again, to the garden fairies, to take a walk down memory lane. ~~~~~~~~ Garden fairies here. We are garden fairies and we are quite busy these first few days of … [Read more...] about Has it really been 12 years?

Turning Facebook Into Flowerbook One Pic at a Time

August 21, 2016 By Carol Michel 7 Comments

I seem to have become known for zinnias this summer, at least amongst my friends on Facebook.  I've posted a lot of pictures of zinnias since they began blooming and started tagging them with #TurnFacebookIntoFlowerbook. In turn, a few friends, maybe three or four, have posted pictures of their zinnias and tagged me.  I'm tickled zinnia pink when they do so. After all, we need more flowers and more flower pictures in this world. And wouldn't it be nice if Facebook was filled with … [Read more...] about Turning Facebook Into Flowerbook One Pic at a Time
