Zinnia Thief on the Loose!

June 22, 2023 By Carol 2 Comments

There’s a zinnia thief on the loose!

This morning I filled up some gallon jugs with water, tossed them onto the bed of my truck and then drove up to the entrance of my neighborhood to water the zinnias I planted up there earlier this spring.

I do this most mornings, occasionally skipping a morning as I did the day before.

I pulled up to the entrance, got out of the truck, grabbed a gallon of water to start watering, and that’s when I realized, some of the zinnias were missing!

The zinnias came three to an eight inch pot and I planted 12 pots of them. Two pots of them, six plants in total, are now missing.

Pulled out! No sign of them anywhere! Just indentations on the ground where they were. I assume they were stolen! Wouldn’t you?

But who steals zinnias?

I’ve been thinking for a while that summertime is a good time for a good mystery to show up and be solved, and now one has landed in my lap, so I’m on the case.

Here’s what I know so far.

Nothing.

I know nothing so far, just that someone took some zinnias—pulled them clean out—of the planting at the entrance to my neighborhood.

Again, who steals zinnias?

This is a mystery that may never be solved. The zinnia planting at the entrance is destined to now be a bit lopsided with zinnias missing on the left side.

But really, who steals zinnias? And why?

Update! I went back the next morning to water and fertilize the zinnias and discovered two more missing zinnias. That’s 8 out of 36 plants. Whoever took them, I hope you grow them with love and kindness so they continue to bloom and attract butterflies, and that seeing butterflies, you will confess and repent!

Someone taking the zinnias is terrible! You may have to spend the night out there to catch the zinnia thief.

It is terrible, Judy. But I’m not spending the night out there waiting for them to come back. Instead I’m just watering what’s left and enjoying them!
