Short's goldenrod is in full bloom in my garden now. I wrote about it years ago, when I first got it, about how it is one of the rarest flowers in the world. I went out early yesterday morning and found these colchicum blooms hiding beneath a giant 'Empress Wu' hosta next to a 'Praying Hands' hosta and another hosta that is one of those 'Mouse Ear' varieties. I spotted these pretty pink Japanese anemones at Newfields. Many gardeners shudder when they see these flowers because they are a "good naturalizer." Code word for they can spread a bit in a garden if it is to their liking.
