Do you need some help to bring some joy back to your gardening life?
Just remember Journey, Organic, and Years!
Gardening takes you on a JOURNEY to destinations unknown and varied. Every trip into your garden—which I hope is not a literal trip over a left-out garden rake—is just one more step in that journey.
That step could take you down a rabbit hole of history as you explore heirloom seed varieties. It could be a leap of faith as you plant something you hope will survive. It could be an all-out sprint as you run around the garden trying to keep ahead of the weeds, which will always grow faster than you can run to find them.
There will be times you’ll feel like your journey has ended, perhaps because you are exhausted from it all, or maybe because your garden is having one of those golden moments when it all seems to come together in ways you could only imagine. When that happens, you should pause on your journey and enjoy it.
Then dust yourself off, put your boots back on, and keep going on your gardening journey.
Keep in mind that your garden is ORGANIC. It’s living and breathing and home to more than just the plants and you. There are creatures, critters, insects, and countless other organisms that consider your garden their home. Be respectful of all of them, and yourself. If one of those populations, like a plant disease or ravenous insects, gets a little out of balance, reach first for an organic solution to bring things back into balance.
Finally, remember it can take YEARS of planting, cultivating, weeding, tweaking, re-planting, trimming, pruning, and every other -ing verb before you have the garden of your dreams. There is no “one and done” in gardening. It’s not an activity one undertakes in an afternoon and finishes by dusk.
And once you realize it is a years-long, if not life-long, endeavor to plant and tend a garden, you can relax and enjoy each moment you can spend doing so. You don’t have to do it all in one day. Or even a weekend. Take your time and enjoy the years you’ll spend on your gardening journey!
That’s it! Bring joy back to your garden by remembering JOY – Journey, Organic, and Years!
