Good stuff first!
We have a new Hoosier garden blogger! Lisa at Greenbow has finally started her own blog, Greenbow. Lisa is located in the southwest part of Indiana and has been leaving comments here and there around the garden blogosphere for awhile now. It’s nice to see her garden pictures and read more about what she is doing in her own garden. She’s published three posts as of this writing; the first one was for Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day a few days ago.
We got over an inch of rain early this morning! That’s going to help ensure that the trees and shrubs go into dormancy just a little more hydrated. I won’t have to try to water trees again this weekend.
I‘ve almost finished weeding the vegetable garden so I won’t have that hanging over my head as something I need to do this weekend, either. Well, maybe I just have to do a little bit of weeding. I put two full trash bags of purslane out for the trash collectors two nights ago. By the way, it is not necessary to tell me that purslane is edible and full of healthy good things like Omega-3 oil. Around here, it is a weed.
Bad stuff, unfortunately.
There is a weird blog-thing ripping off all kinds of content from my blog and from others’ blogs as well. I can tell because I often put links in my blog to old posts, and when this blog-thing rips off my content, it shows up as a link to my blog in Technorati. I don’t want to put a link to the blog-thing here, so I’ll spell it out: “gardening DOT maxblog DOT eu”. The posts are always ‘by Carlos’. Funny thing is that when I try to click on this blog address, I always get “page not found”. I did a search on “maxblog” and got a hit on a site that looks like it is where you can go to set up a “maxblog”. There is an email address, admin AT maxblog DOT eu, on that site, but I am afraid to send something to it, for fear that my email address will be compromised and I’ll start getting a bunch of spam email. Has anyone else noticed this bad blog-thing? Any advice on what to do about it?
We may be getting some bad weather tonight, as a cold front moves in to collide with the warm front that is already here. We are under a “tornado watch” until midnight, even though right now it is calm outside and still warm. We could get thunderstorms, hail, twisters, strong winds, oh, and rain. I’ll take the rain but the rest is not welcome! Because of the watch, I decided not to go after work to the nursery clear on the other side of town to look for a tree. I probably won’t have another chance to go there until late next week.
Always finish with good stuff…
The last few days it seems like the trees are finally starting to show some fall color. Check out the Indiana Leaf Cam to see how beautiful autumn in Indiana can be. But remember these are live web cams, so check them in the daytime, not at night like I just did. In the dark, its hard to see the leaf color…

Carol,
It’s time to get that weather station and weather radio!
Weird about the blog rip-off artist. Clever of you to catch it.

Wow, that guy is ripping off a lot of stuff. I see a post from an Austin blogger on the Umlauf garden titled “Revisiting A Favorite Haunt”. I know I have read it and just can’t identify who wrote it. Austin bloggers, help me ID it!!
That is just horrid to rip off someone’s content like that.
Whyite says
Been getting rain here as well Carol.
Too bad some blogs try to rip off content thats not theirs to put on their blog.

Greenbow is a welcome addition to the blogging world! Welcome Lisa!
That is rotten that your are being ripped off! I am mad for you!
Hope the weather isn’t too rough!

He stole one of my posts a while ago so I posted a comment on his site on the post that he had stolen from me demanding that my copyrighted content posted there without permission be removed immediately. It was gone within 24 hours. It was very unsettling seeing my text and photos on someone else’s site though.
Carol Michel says
Heather… For some reason, I can’t get to the blog-thing. If you can, feel free to leave a comment on one of my stolen posts and tell him that he’s been caught, so get rid of ALL of the stolen content!

Bonnie, that was one of Dawn’s posts: http://suburbanwildlifegarden.blogspot.com/2007/07/revisiting-favorite-haunt.html. Carol, I just tried to visit the site, but it looked like it had been taken down?
Carol Michel says
Robin(Bumblebee)… Yes, I hope someone gets me a real cool weather station for Christmas or birthday.
Gina…. Tornado warnings to the east and north east, but not here so far.
Bonnie… It is very horrible. If they know they’ve been caught, sometimes they remove the post or posts.
Curtis… They are low lifes just trying to get content, the dark side of the Interent.
Layanee… Thanks for being mad for me, now can you come finish the weeding for me, too? Lisa is a welcome addition, indeed!
Thanks all for the comments and support.

Lisa at Greenbow says
Carol, thanks so much for mentioning my blog. Your blog has been an inspiration to me. Your friendly style is outstanding.
I hate to hear that someone is ripping off your writing. I can’t help you with that. I barely get my blogs muses published. I am confounded when I put one on draft. There they stay. Obviously I have lots to learn.
Carol Michel says
Pam/digging… So you got website not found, too? But I just checked Technorati again and it shows a link from 2 hours ago, from another one of my stolen posts! I think nearly every post I’ve done in the last two months has been stolen by whatever creep is behind this blog-thing!

That’s funny. I had just gotten done clicking on the camera link and seeing the very dark picture when I read the next sentence. Doh! Meanwhile, I’m distressed about your evil content sucking blog thing! I hope you can stop it! ~A 🙂

Goes to prove that you have a great blog that some jerk is ripping off posts. And the sad thing is that he doesn’t even edit out people’s signatures at the end of their posts…!
Anyhoo, leave a comment on the site demanding that your copyrighted material(s) be taken down immediately, or send an email from a free email address you create.
Unfortunately, this happens from time to time….
Good luck.
LostRoses says
They say imitation is the best form of flattery, Carol, but not when they’re stealing! I think there’s a lot of people out there with nothing better to do than rip people off, unfortunately.
I’ll check out that leaf cam, but not when it’s 1AM like now!
And welcome to Lisa at Greenbow!

Carol, so you want a real cool weather station for Christmas

Let us know how you made out, storm-wise. I heard there were an awful lot of tornadoes in the midwest last night.
Kylee Baumle says
Carol, I went to the site you mentioned and OMG, I can’t believe how many bloggers that person is stealing content from! There’s got to be a way to get that all off there. Grrrrrr!!!!!
Did you survive the storms last night? My roomie from college lives in Nappanee. Unfortunately, we haven’t been in touch for many years, but I wonder if she and her husband are okay.
Christopher C. NC says
Carol I went to that site also and what Kylee said, the entire blog is stolen content from garden bloggers. One thing you might look at is the “Settings” tab on YOUR blog. Make sure the site feed is set to short. That way only a short piece, not the entire post will go out in feeds and people have to come to your blog for the Full Monty. That may help.
I noticed you can not right click and copy on your blog so it is protected that way, so it must be a feed being copied.
I left a Stop Thief comment on one of your posts, but comment moderation is enabled.
You can try contacting WordPress, two links on the site, maxblog.eu, link at very bottom of blog or any of the people’s names listed in the Blogroll, though they may just be random stolen links with no affiliation.
PIA for sure. Rain is good news though.
Carol Michel says
Lisa at Greenbow… Happy to link to a fellow Hoosier garden blogger and thanks for the kind words. You’ll figure out this blogging but feel free to ask questions, many will help you.
Angela (cottage magpie)… I hope I can get the ripping off stopped, too. And too funny that you checked out the web cam in the dark like I did.
Katie… I can’t seem to get to the website for some reason!
LostRoses… It’s that dark side of the Internet. Hopefully, that site isn’t getting much traffic and real people realize it is all stolen content.
Eleanor… I’m thinking I want a cool weather station.
Kathy… No storm problems, here, thank goodness. Just some rain, but not that much. Most of the worst was in the northern part of the state.
Kylee… I still can’t figure out why I can’t get to that site. Makes me think it stored some cookie on my laptop that I can’t get rid of. I may have to try from my other computer. I guess in some way “misery loves company”, at least I’m not the only blogger he is ripping off.
Christopher C. NC… Thanks for the tip, I just changed my feed to “short”. I have got to figure out how to get to that blog! I’d comment on a lot of those posts and not too kindly.
Thanks all for the support, suggestions, and kind words. We came out fine in yesterday’s storms, most of which bypassed us.

Carol, sorry to hear someone’s been stealing your work. Others have more practical advice than I can offer, unfortunately. I did go and have a look too but couldn’t make much sense out of it. Reporting abuse to WordPress might be the best attack.
Annie in Austin says
Carol, there’s a person with a hunting blog who has dealt with this content-stealing site. He posted about it on his website.
I go back and forth in my mind on the short feeds – hate to discourage a reader, but have seen my words floating around occasionally, too.
