Welcome to Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day for July 2025.
Here in my USDA :Hardiness Zone 6a garden in central Indiana, the first zinnia opened up just in time to push aside all other contenders for “feature photo.”
Who were the other contenders?
We’ll get to them in a minute, after this brief report on the conditions around here. By which I mean weather.
We haven’t gotten that much rain recently, except for this past weekend, so the garden is still living off the beautiful, slow spring we had. All the flowers one would expect to be blooming in mid-July are blooming in mid-July.
Let’s take a quick look at some of them!
The conflowers, Echinacea purpurea, are all blooming now.

I have some in various colors, but I like the basic ones the best.
Nearby, the blackberry lily is blooming.

You can see Shasta daisies in the background. They are just about done. And by the way, blackberry lilies aren’t really lilies, they are more related to irises. I like when they self-sow around the garden.
I do have some big lilies blooming.

And the tall phlox is blooming too.

You can see in the picture that the growth around them is lush, and the bed is way more shaded than it used to be.
I do have other flowers… nicotiana, sunflowers, marigold, roses, pelargoniums, geraniums, cup flowers, tiger lilies, vitex, allium, etc… all blooming but I didn’t have time to take pictures of all of them.
I did have time for one last picture.

Yes, a few violas are popping up as seedlings here and there and blooming nicely. Isn’t that lovely?
Now, what’s blooming in your garden as we reach the middle of July, the middle of summer?
Join in for Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day and show us. To participate, post somewhere (your blog, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, etc.) about what’s blooming in your garden on or around the 15th of the month, then come back here and put a link in the Mr. Linky widget so we can find you and a leave a comment to tell us what you have in bloom.

Seeing your blackberry lily reminds me that it was lost along the way somewhere… I guess I have never had it at this garden! I wonder if it is still blooming in the old one… will have to go take a look and nab some seeds if so. Happy GBBD Carol!!! đ
My blackberry lilies declined last year and didnât survive the winter. I had gotten them at Thomas Jeffersonâs Monticello so sad to lose them. I enjoyed your sneak preview of 12 flax. Mine havenât started to bloom yet. My favorite though was the zinnia. For some reason, I just donât do well at my house though, and we donât have the community garden plot this year where we usually grew ours.
I wish you’d show us more photos of your garden, Carol. I love your Asian lilies and the violas, would like to see more of the over-all garden as well as the individual flowers.
I can’t imagine still having pansies during the summer months but then I can’t imagine rain in summer either. My lilies are headed for the door and my dahlias have yet to arrive but, luckily, there are other, less flashy flowers taking up the slack.
Lovely phlox! This is my second year having phlox in my garden and I’ve yet to see them bloom thanks to the darn deer.
Hi Carol, I’m very late this month. But I still thought there images worth sharing. A lot of overlap with items that you have so I tried to focus on some other things. Let’s hope the weather can get a little more consistency as we move forward. I know a lot of people have been dealing with unusual flooding…
