Welcome to Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day for August 2023.
Here in my USDA hardiness zone 6a garden in central Indiana, the first half of August has brought nearly four inches of rain, give or take, which has completely wiped out any lingering concerns we had in May about having another dry summer.
Whew. It has been nice. Shall we look at the flowers now that you’ve read the weather update?
In my front garden, a summer-blooming ornamental onion, Allium ‘Serendipity, is in full bloom. Mixing nicely through it is good ol’ Geranium ‘Rozanne’, which has been blooming all summer. I know some people have trouble establishing Geranium ‘Rozanne’ in their gardens, but if you can get it going, it takes off and goes and goes.
Shall we quickly walk through the rest of the garden? There are quite a few blooms in August!
And that is August here in my garden.
What’s blooming in your garden? Join in for Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day and show us. It’s easy to participate. Just post on your blog or on social media about the blooms in your garden on or around the 15th of the month, then leave a link below in the Mr. Linky widget below so we can find you and a comment to tell us what we have to look forward to.

August makes me a little sad, too, knowing that the first frost is (almost) in sight. A smallish Joe Pye weed? I wish I had the room for it. I enjoyed, especially, your surprise lilies, your alliums and your snapdragons.

Your garden is looking wonderful for the month of August. The rain has certainly helped the hydrangea this year and yours is looking fabulous, as are all your other plants. After seeing your Allium ‘Millenium’ year after year, I finally purchased some for my garden! I can see why you love them so much!

Hello Carol! Glad to find you still hosting GBBD! I am gardening writing again after a considerable break for homeschooling my three kids, and also on a new blog platform. As I get going again, it was a nice perk to remember that I could join in again here after many years. I still garden in the same location – zone 5, Grove City, PA – just a bit north of you. I cannot remember having such a green August ever. I wish to paint the garage on a dry week which I am sure is still coming in September, but other than that I really can’t complain. The Allium ‘Millenium’ is a winner for sure! And yes, Geranium ‘Rozanne’ is such a roamer! Blooming here as well.

It’s wonderful to see more pulled back shots, and to get a better sense of your overall garden. I love the photo of the cup plant, Silphium perfoliatum. As for your rain, good lord! We haven’t had measurable rain since late April/early May—excepting that one very random day in June where we got less than half an inch. It’s DRY and hot (108 yesterday)…

Beautiful!

Your border plants are fun. I like little soldier plants zinnias contrasted with others like your roaming-free geraniums too. Makes the world go around!
Your evolving website is so inviting. Way to go!

Hi Carol, I’m glad you’ve had rain. It has been a really discouraging time for us. Dry, cracked earth abounds…
Thank goodness we can still water the vegetable garden.

Rain in summer is a mini-miracle in my part of the country so I’m envious of yours. Your August garden looks fresh and vibrant whereas mine looks parched but then every area offers its challenges and opportunities. I do wish I had your success with Alliums, though.

That is a lot of annual seed sowing you have done Carol. Most impressive.

Carol, Your garden is still looking very fresh and vibrant in mid-August. My Maine garden is already starting to look fall-ish. No shortage of rain here in Maine: we had more than 5″ in a few hours last week!
