Welcome to Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day for July 2025.
Here in my USDA :Hardiness Zone 6a garden in central Indiana, the first zinnia opened up just in time to push aside all other contenders for “feature photo.”
Who were the other contenders?
We’ll get to them in a minute, after this brief report on the conditions around here. By which I mean weather.
We haven’t gotten that much rain recently, except for this past weekend, so the garden is still living off the beautiful, slow spring we had. All the flowers one would expect to be blooming in mid-July are blooming in mid-July.
Let’s take a quick look at some of them!
The conflowers, Echinacea purpurea, are all blooming now.
I have some in various colors, but I like the basic ones the best.
Nearby, the blackberry lily is blooming.
You can see Shasta daisies in the background. They are just about done. And by the way, blackberry lilies aren’t really lilies, they are more related to irises. I like when they self-sow around the garden.
I do have some big lilies blooming.
And the tall phlox is blooming too.
You can see in the picture that the growth around them is lush, and the bed is way more shaded than it used to be.
I do have other flowers… nicotiana, sunflowers, marigold, roses, pelargoniums, geraniums, cup flowers, tiger lilies, vitex, allium, etc… all blooming but I didn’t have time to take pictures of all of them.
I did have time for one last picture.
Yes, a few violas are popping up as seedlings here and there and blooming nicely. Isn’t that lovely?
