I spotted these pretty pink Japanese anemones at Newfields.
Many gardeners shudder when they see these flowers because they are a “good naturalizer.” Code word for they can spread a bit in a garden if it is to their liking.
In other words, sometimes they don’t stay in their place, which, depending on how you like your garden, is a bad thing, or it could be a good thing.
One of their common names is thimbleweed.
Is it ever a good thing to plant something in your garden with a common name with the word “weed” as part of it?
Sometimes, especially if you are looking for a taller plant that will tolerate some shade and bloom later in the season, like these thimbleweeds, oops, I mean Japanese anemones do.
Now before you make up your mind about them, what about these flowers?
Wouldn’t you agree they are also pretty?
Guess what? That’s the same flower, just the backside of it.
Now, how many flowers do you know that look just as good from the back as they do from the front?
Want to see them again?
Here’s the front of the flowers, the faces.
And here’s the back side of the flowers.
You can’t say that all flowers look good from all sides like that!

beautiful, but they do not like to be moved.
