Welcome to Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day for May 2023.
Where to begin?
Here in my USDA hardiness zone 6a garden in central Indiana, we are frost-free and there are flowers all over the garden.
I posted a reel on Instagram the other day with some of the columbines in bloom but I don’t think I included this lovely pink one that is growing beside a path. Variety? Anyone’s guess.
The columbines are blooming all over the garden, which I like. After they finish flowering, I’ll let them go to seed and then I’m sure to have more next year.
Here are a few other pictures of flowers that caught my eye early on Sunday morning (after two rain showers on Saturday).
I could go on and on showing more flowers… but it would make for much too long of a post and I want to spend time out there enjoying it all, and you want to get to some of the other blogs posting for Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day.

Happy May and Bloom Day Carol! Your blooms are wonderful, especially the columbines and Mock Orange with its those gorgeous white blooms! Gardening season is definitely full speed ahead here on Long Island, with lots of blooms. Stop by and take a look!

Such nice pink salvia. I love mock orange. My parents had a few, large ones. They took so much water though, that when it came to rationing my mother had to stop watering them.
Your garden’s looking pretty in pink, Carol. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pink-flowered Salvia like that, or a pink columbine either.

I love the idea of the pink garden–something like the famous Sissinghurst White Garden but in a different color. I may try something like this in my garden in the future: a Blue Garden would be fabulous! Thank you for hosting Bloom Day!
Another May, another burst of beauty. Your mock orange makes me wish I had more room on my small semi-urban plot – yes, it’s small but not that small. I am also one who would enjoy the “sparkler” allium. Thank you so much for hosting this month after month. I enjoy Bloom Day so much.

The violas are gorgeous, those shades of yellow and purple. You’re only one zone ahead of us but it seems like at least a month apart. We have a forecasted 28F low on this Wednesday!

I love my Philadelphus ‘Illuminati Arch’ as well. Great plant for small places. Looks like you are still a week or two ahead of us in western Oregon in terms of blooming time. Columbines are just beginning to open or send up flower spikes.
Your garden is filled with lovely soft pinks this time of year. Love that!
Beautiful! Do the mock orange blooms smell as lovely as citrus blooms?
Tracy, I smelled them once and sadly, they didn’t have much fragrance. But the white blooms were still beautiful and stayed for several weeks.
