Win A Fiskars® Momentum™ Reel Mower!
This spring I’m looking forward to mowing the lawn more so than ever before because I have a new Fiskars® Momentum™ Reel Mower in my garage, ready to bring out for the first mowing of the season.
I recall fondly the final mowing of the season last year, my first time to mow with this new reel mower. What fun that was!
Soon, in just three or four weeks, I’ll roll out my new Fiskars® reel mower again and begin a whole new season of mowing the lawn.
Let the countdown begin
According to my garden journal, I’ve started mowing for the season as early as March 26th and and as late as April 7th. It all depends on the weather and how quickly it warms up. I hope this is an “early” year. We’ll see. All I know is that right now each day is warmer than the day before, crocuses are blooming like crazy and soon the grass will start growing again and be ready for me to mow it!
Thank you, once again, to Fiskars® who sent me that mower to review last fall.
And thanks to Fiskars® , one lucky reader/commenter will soon have a new Fiskars® Momentum™ Reel Mower to start their mowing season with, too.
There are two steps to enter this giveaway:
1. Add your name and blog or website url to the Mr. Linky Widget below. If you don’t have a blog or website, just enter www.fiskars.com for the url.
2. Leave a comment and tell us when you generally start mowing your lawn in the spring.

I've only lived in this house for a year so I can't say when I start mowing here. When I lived in North Carolina we really didn't have much of an off season. Mowing was just less frequent during the winter.
I do know that I failed to drain the gas from my mower last fall and now I'm not sure if it will even start this year. Good excuse to upgrade to a reel mower!

You do get some great products to try out. We haven't used a reel mower for years. Mowing should have been done a couple of weeks ago because the grass on our septic field is getting higher than the wildflowers. Now it will have to wait until after they have bloomed. This would be a great test for a reel mower. You have such great giveaways, Carol.Thanks.
We put off mowing at the end of last season, so the grass was pretty long during the winter- and will necessitate earlier mowing this spring. Oh my, I can't wait until it starts growing again! Also- high of 60+ in Indy today?! Hooray!

I would love this mower, my son has been asking me for the last couple of years to buy him one, but money was too tight. In Michigan, it really depends on when we first start mowing. If the spring is warm and dry, it can be the end of April. The last couple of years, though, it has been not until June.

we usually start around the end of april, although with all the rain we are having the back is showing signs of needing it sooner..:)
thanks so much!

We don't have to mow until mid-May at the earliest, which is fine with me becuase that's not my favorite thing in the world to do. Right up there with going to the dump.
Fiskars are the best tools I've ever had for the garden, especially the folding saws.
I have a small lawnette that would love this mower…But the grass hasn't started growing yet! Soon tho! gail
A very cool prize! Generally I'll start mowing sometime in the next two weeks. So far though with the cold temperatures the grass hasn't really begun growing. It's been warm the last 4-5 days now so it should be breaking dormancy. The rains we'll get this week will be a good trigger – I can't wait to get mowing, I should probably not enjoy it so much!
In SE Florida, we usually start moving regularly in March, depending on the winter and type of grass, of course. I've mowed the "weeds" a couple of times this winter, but so far the Florida friendly Bahia is dormant due to this year's long winter.
Awesome giveaway! I HOPE I'm the lucky winner!!! 🙂
I'm so tempted to cheat by making up names and getting email addresses for them. This mower would be perfect for us. I don't usually record the first mowing of the year, although I seem to record the last one. Odd, that, but usually we start mowing around the end of April or the beginning May, after the Scilla have finished blooming. I know this because I have to fence around the ones in the lawn so my husband doesn't mow them down (there are always a few casualties).
You know, I can't remember exactly when we usually start mowing, since that's the Executive Producer's job. I know it will be later than usual this year because the grass actually went dormant!

I've mowed once already. I would love to be able to do the job quickly with a Fiskars mower instead of my power mower…it seems such overkill for my lawn!

I let my lawn grow a little longer and taller to conserve water here in dry Texas, so I don't start mowing until March, typically. This year, though, our spring is late, so my lawn isn't even green yet!

My husband (the dear man) did the first mow of the season about 3 wks ago. He has only done it that one time so far but it needs it again already. We live in western Washington and so have not had the snowfall that you on the East Coast have had. I would so love to have one of those mowers. They look like so much fun. I have been wanting one of these forever! Its too hard for me to start our other mower so i have to wait for my husband to do it…and he doesn't have a lot of time.
Shoot, I try not to mow until June if I can, even with an electric mower I still feel bad using it. Witha non eclectric, I could keep uo with my neighbors who starting mowing well before their over-fertilized yards are half green in mid April.
We generally start around April. My husband would LOVE this!
I don't mow until I absolutely have to! So it's usually mid-April when I start…
Our lawn actually needs mowing already, but I probably won't mow it til April.

I generally start mowing mid-late May. It depends on how the spring rain season goes.
hmm, I really haven't paid attention to when I usually start mowing. I would guess in mid-April after its pretty safe we won't have any more snow!
Usually around tax day–April 15.
Looks like a great replacement for my gas lawnmower. I start yard work in mid April.
I don't get to mow until late April. I am queenesperfect at yahoo.com

My flowers would love this new mower–it would ensure that Husband wouldn't mow them over in trying to get too close to the garden:) Usually we don't start mowing until April, but with the warm temperatures today, the grass is greening up quickly, so who knows. It hit 70 here today!
We usually start mowing in April, but if it needs it sooner, we do it sooner. Fiskars is certainly a lawn care product to trust. I didn't know they made mowers.
The lawn needs mowing now. We have had a lot of rain and plenty of sunny days. As soon as the ground dries out enough, it is time to mow.
Nice contest! We usually start mowing our lawn mid-April.
Carol, how exciting for you to have one of these. I can imagine your delight in going more 'green'. I do NOT mow-hubby does that and he usually starts in early to mid April. Or..just before the big Easter egg hunt so that freshly mown grass gets tracked all through the house. 🙂 If I am chosen, I will give this to Rose. She has wanted one for a while now so she can have more flower beds and her hubby won't have to trim around them.
we mow around April here.

love trimming
I grow buffalo grass and blue grama on my lawn, so I don't actually mow until around the middle of june, and then only once more after that, toward the end of July. I'm thinking a Fiskars reel mower is *exactly* what I need–I mean, why fire up a noisy gas mower for such a tiny lawn?

I usually hold out until I think the neighbors will be annoyed by the shagginess of the lawn… so usually I start about early to mid May.

WE START MOVING TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF APRIL BECAUSE OF ALL THE SNOW AND RAIN WE HAVE HAD…THE GRASS WILL PROBABLY GROW LIKE CRAZY NOW
(I really thought I commented yesterday morning, but it apparently got lost. forgive me if this is a duplicate)
We usually start mowing early April, except for that one year we planted some winter rye. We had to mow more than once a week that year, starting in early March!
amyspencer@ gmail DOT com
My husband starts mowing the lawn about the middle of March each year.
traymona[at]aol.com
I usually wait as long as possible to mow the lawn, and as long as possible between mowings because I've got an old gas-guzzling, emission spewing monster! Anna
annaott AT hotmail DOT com
Usually right about this time. It is starting to get warm (upper 60s, low 70s) and we have had plenty of rain so it needs it. Now to find the time.
My birthday is May 1 and I always try to give myself a birthday present by not mowing before May 2, if at all possible. In any case, I'm a proponent of tall grass so I let it grow in the spring to get strong and set my mowers as high as they'll go. I have both a B&D cordless electric mower I bought in 2002 and a Craftsman reel mower, both of which set to 3.5 inches though I'd prefer 4 inches. Right now, it's mid-March in Central Indiana and grass is nowhere near ready to mow.
I guess the lawn service usually started the end of March/April depending on the weather. We've cancelled them and would like to start doing our own yardwork. As we don't have a lawnmower currently, winning one would be great!

I start when it needs it..and that varies from year to year
Usually the first mow is in early April, but it varies from year to year depending upon the weather
I think we typically start mowing in mid-April. This reel mower sounds so fantastic as we are still using my husband's grandfather's reel mower, which I would guess was built using the heaviest steel & lumber they could find at the time!
We usually start mowing in mid April. I would love to win this mower!

We have had snow until May some years so I never know when we will need to mow. I love my Fiskars garden tools so their mower would be a natural for me.
I'm not sure when we start mowing… May I think. We're buying a house this month and will be finding out shortly.
Emily5446 AT vermontel DOT net
We start in April. I'd love to win this to give to Emily who is moving to a new house.
If I win, post a comment on my blog and I will get back with you.
Since I don't have a garden journal, I can only guess that it is late April for the small lawn around my home (perfect for a reel mower). It's much later at the tree farm and we use a mower pulled behind a tractor. The meadow will get mowed as soon as the ground is dry enough.
I generally start mowing in early April… that's a most interesting mower… hadn't seen one prior to now! LC
I would say usually late April since the grass grows slow in this part of the country.
Usually we are mowing by May…hopefully sooner.
I've been obsessing about this mower since you first reviewed it. Fiskar scissors are the best and I can only assume that a reel mower would be the same. I have a small yard and don't really need the smelly gas push mower that I've been using for the last several years. My email address is on the About Me page of my blog – easy to find.
I was unusually bold and retweeted the link. Almost forgot: mowing usually starts in May for me, but there have been a few years when I began mowing in April.

Carol,
Great post! This is a wonderful mower as you know–I saw it in action at the GWA conference in Raleigh last fall. While we mow with a battery powered mower, I this this is a fabulous substitute–and perhaps easier to handle in spots!
I just adore your blog posts especially the one about the fairies! And I'm so jealous that you have things in bloom! Even my early daffs aren't up yet! I just have snowdrops still!
Karla
We could mow right now. The regular dormant-in-winter lawn was overseeded with annual ryegrass. It looks like an Easter lawn, bright green and shaggy.

I tried using a different reel mower a few years ago and it just didn't do a very good job. I would love to have the Fiskars. I mow less than a acre using a gas powered push mower.
We start mowing here in mid-April.

We've already done our first spring mowing here!! End of February or early March is generally when we have to start, and it grows so fast during this part of the year that we have to do it at least every week to ten days. Luckily it slows down when summer heats up.

Mowing starts in earnest about when the daffodils finish in mid-April. It's then a sprint to keep up with the grass until it gets hot here in June or July.
We have a reel mower, but it doesn't look half as cool (or effective) as the Fiskars. Gardening tool lust strikes early this year… 😉
We usually start mowing sometime around Easter. Spring is usually in the air and the grass has started growing.
I've never actually noted when I first cut the grass. Maybe I should put it in the garden records. It'll be late this year because it's been so cold and wet. What I have right now is mostly soggy, brown leftovers from last year's lawn. You're several hundred miles north of me but it sounds like it's warmer there. My crocus aren't even budding yet

Sniff. Fiskars is mean to us Canadian customers. We have their products here, but will they offer one to me to trial in my challenging, going every more green garden and yard? No. They don't love us, I guess. It must be the hockey game we won. (do I sound tragic enough yet?)
Usually we will start mowing when we can put away the hip boots for moving about the yard or when the grass stops going "squish" with every step…
Usually, it gets its first mosing around the middle of April…assuming there was no freak Midwest weather & we still have a few inches of snow 🙂
