I know something every gardener can plant in their garden in August, no matter where they live.
It’s something that does well in all types of gardens and all different hardiness zones.
It can be planted regardless of whether you’ve gotten a lot of rain, just the right amount of rain, or not enough rain.
Sun or shade? No problem.
What is it?
Tell us now!
We all want to plant it.
Hey, wait, is this some kind of trick you’re playing on us, Carol.
It’s sort of a trick.
I’d like you to plant yourself in your garden in August.
Find a good chair, a comfortable chaise lounge, or even a decent blanket you can throw on the lawn.
Then plant yourself down with a favorite beverage, maybe even a glass of wine, and relax and enjoy your garden. (Are you curious about what wine I’m linking to?)
While you’re planted in your garden, maybe take a few notes about what’s growing well and what maybe has gone past its prime and should probably be moved to the compost pile.
Look for gaps and just imagine what you might plant to fill in those gaps. Maybe there’s a spot that would be perfect for mums? Or other fall flowers? (Yes, those are links to articles I wrote for The Family Handyman.)
Or take your mind forward into the future and think about spring bulbs blooming. Easter is right around the corner on April 9th, the perfect time for a peak spring flower display if you buy the right bulbs now. (Sorry, no Family Handyman links, but check out Brent & Becky’s Bulbs, a great family-owned bulb business.)
Challenge yourself to be planted in your garden without your smartphone. Without scrolling through social media. If you must though, you can take a book out there with you.
Seriously (sort of), spending a few minutes planted in your garden in August may be the best thing you do for yourself and your garden this season.

I’m planted in front of a fan in the house for a while. It’s hot out there! 😁
More seriously, we should all spend some time just sitting and looking at what we have created in partnership with plants.
