Today’s seed packet poetry is from a set of vintage seed packets, year unknown.
I’d like to guess these packets are vintage 1950s but someone will likely say they are from the 1960s.
I am still getting used to the idea that something that was around when I was a kid is now considered “vintage.”
Recalling from the first post about seed packet poetry, here’s how the poetry is written.
Find some seed packets… old ones, new ones, any ones.
Look at the descriptions on the back.
Then find a few phrases that you like and make a poem out of them.
For no particular reason, for the first poem, I picked three descriptions of the plants for the first verse and three descriptions about how to grow them for the second verse. I’ll do the same here but don’t take that as some kind of rule that you have to abide by.
Seed Packet Poetry #2
Universally popular of all annuals,
Uniformly dwarf, compact plants,
Upright habit, lots of bloom.
Succeeds so easily,
Since the seed is very fine,
Start seeds indoors in early Spring.
For some reason I also chose lines for each verse that started with the same letter. I do love alliteration, as you can tell from my book titles. That is also not something that has to be done to make it a bonafide seed packet poem.
Anyway, that’s Seed Packet Poetry #2. I’m now going to return these packets to my supply, which I keep on hand to give away as bookmarks when I sell my books in person or if someone orders one through my website.
(Someone ordered a book last week and I forgot to include the bookmark. I’m still thinking about that. I think I’m going to have to mail the person a bookmark to get it out of my mind.)
If you decide to order a book this week from me, I’ll remember to include the seed packet bookmark, and maybe make it two seed packet bookmarks!
And I do want to see your seed packet poetry. Leave it in a comment or email it to me.
