If the assignment was to take an angelonia, in this case ‘Alonia Big Cherry’ and find a petunia that perfectly matched it, I totally aced it.
In fact, if I may say so myself, I deserve extra credit because I did not take the angelonia and run around the greenhouse looking for a petunia that matched it perfectly.
Oh, no. That would have been too easy.
That would have been child’s play!
Instead, I bought the angelonia before it was blooming and then—this next feat is worth a gold star—I grew the petunia from seed.
So now you are thinking that I carefully chose the variety of petunia I grew from seed so it would be sure to match.
Nope. I bought ‘Royalty Mixed Colors’ petunia seeds. Based on the picture on the seed packet, these petunias could have turned out pink or white or dark purple or even red. (In fact, you can see a dark purple one wants to bloom over there on the left.)
Then I managed to plant the one petunia seedling that would perfectly match the angelonia right next to it. And I planted it in a container that I planted up with all the leftover plants that I had after planting everything else.
So now you are realizing it was all a happy accident to match these two flowers.
Pretty much.
But don’t let that take away from the good grade and extra credit I get for doing it.
