SO FUNNY! Around my neck of the woods it’s usually around groundhog’s day that I begin feeling like everyday is just like the last: Wake Up, Watch the local weather, Shovel Snow, go to work/school, Come Home, Shovel Snow, Go to Bed. Repeat. Any one else feeling a bit like Bill Murray?
Groundhog day was really started by the German immigrants in the 1800’s and it was to celebrate Candlemas Day, which is the half way point from the beginning of winter to the beginning of spring.
Shadow or no shadow spring will arrive on or about March 21. But the first day of spring isn’t always the first spring day.
Yep, I am feeling like Bill right now. UGH… We had a groundhog in our garden last year. It must have been migrating becasue it didn’t stay. I would hate for those big brutes to decide to hang out here. Talk about destruction. Have you seen the holes they dig for their burrows??

I don’t know if my local groundhog, Wiarton Willie, saw his shadow or not, He lives near Georgian Bay on Lake Huron where the sun may have peeked through the clouds, and I live further south where it’s definitely overcast.
I never saw the movie either, but I did understand–and laughed, even on a Saturday morning when it’s raining and everything is a glare of ice (from the freezing rain of last night). Skates are becoming mandatory footwear for going out of the house. Bring on spring–in two or three months, it’ll be here….

I never saw the movie either, but after reading all the comments, I “get” that if I had seen the movie, I would have “gotten” it. And I agree, only six more weeks of winter would be a real treat. We had a snowstorm on April 15th last year.

Ha! I agree…you always think up the clever thing! I got it right away too, thanks to Netflix. That’s one of the movies I missed the first time around and saw it only a year or two ago.
Hahahahaha! Very funny. Very Funny. And, you are so right about Spring, groundhog or not, it’s all pretty much the same around here as well. Spring comes in late February, with one possible set back by the first week in March. Regardless.

I’m chuckling Carol. Funny girl 🙂 I’ve been wishing I had that movie to watch tonight. I saw it with our oldest daughter while visiting her at college in Ohio. It brings back very fond memories of a precious time.

Great post! It started my day off with a smile and also reminded me that we won’t even see little green leaves on the trees til mid May. Sigh. Oh well, we’ll be lounging in splendor while the rest of the nation roasts in heat and humidity. The prices we pay for a nice cool summer.

LOL! Of course I got it right away – “Groundhog Day” is much beloved around here. Woodstock, IL, where the movie was filmed, is just 40 minutes up the road from me. We watched the movie yesterday morning & the kids were wowed that they had been in a place that was in a movie (we took them to Woodstock’s square last summer). I don’t think Woodstock Willie saw his shadow.
Hope you never have a groundhog. They are very destructive & are hard to trap. I’ve had to deal with 3 (not at the same time).
