Garden fairies here.
We are garden fairies and we are here to provide you dear readers with a report on winter so far.
Now, before we go into details, we garden fairies must remind everyone that we do not control, manipulate, command, or otherwise dictate the weather.
We take it as we get it, just like you all do.
Well, right now we are taking not much of winter. We read something online (oh, yes, Carol leaves the computer on and we aren’t going to not look!) about how we haven’t had this little amount of snow in 127 years.
Even Ol’ Rainbow Tanglefly doesn’t remember back quite that far, but we are garden fairies.
Anyway, so we got some snow yesterday by early morning and it was kind of pretty, what there was of it, but mostly gone by noon, such as it was, and we didn’t manage to get Carol to pick up her phone and take a picture, such as she is.
Nope, she was too busy reading garden columns written by Miss Elizabeth Lawrence in the 1960s mostly for the Charlotte Observer newspaper. Many were compiled into a book called Through the Garden Gate and well, once Carol started reading the columns Miss Lawrence wrote in January days long ago, we couldn’t get her to do anything else.
Then poof it was 9 am, which is when blog posts written by then get sent out and Carol seems to have this idea that if she doesn’t write a blog post by 9 am, no use bothering until the next day. Except does she ever think that if she wrote it after 9 am it would go out the next morning and she’d actually be ahead for once?
We are garden fairies. By the way, we remember fondly Miss Lawrence’s garden. Carol went several times, you remember, and of course we went too. Good times. Now gives us a minute to find that picture of Carol at that famous gate.
Found it. Of course we did, we are garden fairies! It was in 2015! We also found a blog post thanking the garden caretaker, Andrea, for her hospitality.
By the way, the little Barnardia japonica from MIss Lawrence’s garden that Andrea gave Carol is still growing quite well and starting to multiply so in true Miss Lawrence fashion, and encouraged by us garden fairies, Carol has already dug up a few of the precious bulbs and given three of them away.
May they grow as well in the recipients gardens as they do in Carol’s garden.
Anyway, maybe tomorrow, we can coax Carol into writing a blog post about the month by month books she’s reading every morning, though we need her to read those books AND write blog posts for crying out loud.
And for crying out loud, it is almost 9 am again. We are garden fairies, we will not miss this self-imposed deadline to finish and publish a blog post!
