Garden fairies here.
We are garden fairies and we are posting on this blog so that it doesn’t go dormant and disappear like that chocolate Carol bought and swore would last her for weeks and weeks.
Well, in a matter of days, we could find none of the chocolate, and that is enough sweet talk.
We are garden fairies and we need to get on to the business of talking about the weather, which has taken a decidedly northward turn.
Yes, after months and months of a mild fall, which seemed like it would never end, someone(s)—we aren’t naming Seedy and Soddy as the someones just yet but the evidence is overwhelmingly against them—tripped over the thermometer and the next thing we know, pleasant mild days no more!
It’s cold outside!
This means that Carol has stopped doing her outside chores, like picking up the last of the leaves off the back lawn to put on the beds in the Vegetable Garden Cathedral, putting up more Christmas lights, and et cetera. This has caused great concern for Trilby Trillium, who likes to be in charge. She was so perturbed about it all that she was going to march right into the house to tell Carol what was what and show her all the coats, hats, mittens and other gear she could put on to garden in the cold.
But then Honoria and Hortense stopped her and told her that she should just calm down for two reasons. They said—and SweetPea MorningGlory agreed—that even if Carol didn’t clean up another leaf or put up another strand of Christmas lights, the garden was in good enough shape for the time being to withstand the cold, and so Trilby should just calm down! Secondly, she was upsetting Granny ‘Gus’ McGarden out in the Vegetable Garden Cathedral with all her mad stomping around and raving at anyone who would listen.
Even Ol’ Tangle Rainbowfly, who doesn’t like to be disturbed when he is napping, heard the ruckus they were raising, they got so loud with their “discussion.” So he quieted everyone down with the reminder that it would get warm again someday, and likely Carol would return as soon as it did to at least pick up some leaves. And even if she didn’t put up more Christmas lights, the lights that were up were pretty enough.
Ol’ Tangle Rainbowfly’s assurances seemed to help, and soon everyone went back to what they were doing before the ruckus about the weather, as we are calling it.
Granny ‘Gus’ McGarden returned to tidying up the leaves on the beds in the Vegetable Garden Cathedral. She fusses over them all winter.
Seedy and Soddy continued to toss leaves down off the ginkgo tree. They are doing it ever so slowly this year.
Honoria and Hortense decided they would polish up some of the Christmas lights to make sure they kept shining brightly. They thought Carol would appreciate this.
Sweetpea MorningGlory huddled up with several others to check on some of the seeds, deciding which they would germinate in the spring. We only can hope they don’t germinate weed seeds but already they are germinating chickweed.
And big surprise, Trilby Trillium, who likes to be in charge, got some snowdrops to bloom. We hope she gets some trillium to bloom in the spring.
And that is all we have to say about the weather today.
Yes, we do accept your thanks and gratitude for saving this blog from extinction.
