Garden fairies here.
We are garden fairies and we are here to assess the seed situation that someone’s shopping of seed sales has caused.
Honestly, we are kind of proud of Carol for buying seeds on sale so early because it will give us more time to sort through the seeds and put them into categories that will make sense to both us and Carol.
But on the other hand, how can a gardener take something as simple as sowing seeds and turning it into a production worthy of a three-ring circus.
We know how.
By buying all kinds of seeds.
It reminded Ol’ Rainbow Tanglefly of the long-ago days when Carol used to show up at the local Frank’s Nursery and Crafts right after the new year for their 50% off all seeds sales. “Oh, my! The seeds she’d buy!” he exclaimed.
But that was then and this is now and Carol’s poor record keeping means we aren’t sure if she is buying more or less seeds these days than in those days, but honestly, we are garden fairies, does it matter? We must deal with what we have today!
Honoria and Hortense are working to ensure Carol gets all the seeds listed in some kind of spreadsheet so she can be organized and not forget to sow some seeds and also to see what seeds she still needs to buy. They have devised several categories, which we now forthwith and will surely list.
- Seeds to winter sow and she’d better get going on those!
- Seeds to sow early but sow inside and she’d better get going on those.
- Seeds to sow early outside once things turn toward that springtime direction.
- Seeds to sow later inside but not too early because then the plants get all leggy.
- Seeds to sow later outside once it has clearly warmed up and their won’t be any more frost.
- Seeds to wonder why she bought them in the first place and probably won’t sow anyway.
- Seeds she still needs to buy.
Then, we are garden fairies, we have to do some calculating of all the seeds to sow inside to see if there is enough room under the lights on the one rack Carol has and if not, we will need to convince her to buy another rack with lights, but that means she’s going to have to rearrange her sunroom and that’s going to take some time and effort and…
We are garden fairies. We will not panic. Our motto is one seed at a time. Or one seed packet at a time. Now, we must end this little update because if we don’t let Carol have the computer, how will she ever get her seeds listed in a spreadsheet?

P.S. There is more talk of seeds on the podcast this week. Early listen link and a special surprise in the newsletter that just got sent.

Remind Carol to figure in potting on in her calculations. If she pots any seedlings into bigger pots before planting them outside, she’s going to need more room under lights for those bigger seedlings than she would if they stayed in their original pots.

I think you should cross off “seeds she still needs to buy”. hahaha
