I never expected when I walked into the grocery store today that I would have my floral sensibilities assaulted, but here we are.
I saw tulips for sale in October.
I repeat.
I saw tulips for sale in October.
Yes, those are tulips, those quintessential SPRING flowers, for sale in the fall with mums behind them.
What is going on?
Oh sure, I have crocuses blooming in my garden now, which some might find weird because crocuses are also considered a spring flower.
However, these crocuses, Crocus speciosus, are supposed to bloom in the fall. Thus, they cannot be an assault on one’s floral sensibilities. They belong to Fall.
But tulips? Tulips belong to Spring.
Thus seeing these tulips in October was an assault on my floral sensibilities, the likes of which I’ve not felt since that time I saw poinsettias offered for sale as fall flowers, dyed in shades of orange and brown.
What’s next? Peonies in July? (But wait, I can explain those peonies. They were an experiment that worked and I do believe that up in Alaska, peonies do often bloom in July.)
But again, tulips in October?
Clearly an assault on my floral sensibilities!

Oh yes, we see tulips also in October, but I never buy tulips before January! Accept tulip bulbs. I expect to receive those bulbs next week. Groetjes Hetty

Spring flowers lift our spirits. Summer flowers and bees naturally go together. Fall flowers bring color and a bit of calm as we get ready to cozy in for the winter.
Tulips in October is like Valentine Candy for Halloween.
