Happy Independence Day.
Just for fun, I looked at last year’s post on July 4th.
I wanted it to stop raining so I could garden. Now we might get some rain today and that would make me very happy!
My sister’s garden was a bit out of control, now it is a showcase garden for raised beds and wrought iron fencing.
My corn was shoulder high and tasseling, and today it is once again shoulder high and tasseling.
My beans were blooming a year ago, and once again today my beans are blooming.
And I’m still a few weeks away from harvesting the first ripe tomato, just like last year.
You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4th, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism. – Erma Bombeck

Happy July 4th, Carol; I love the quote by Erma Bombeck, and the photo of the All-American garden!
I’m going to join the crowds of wanting it to rain–it’s actually getting dry here, and we’ve had little fog, even–but the temperatures aren’t very warm, either. Weird summer this.

Love that quote from Erma Bombeck on the end of your post, Carol.
Have a great 4th!

I like that quote by Erma Bombeck, unfortunate we won’t be doing much outdoor celebration here in Miami, the weather is horrible. I hope you have a happy and safe 4th of July

Happy July 4th Carol. I envy you having that much space for vegetables.
If this hot weather keeps up you may soon have those first ripe tomatoes.

Lovely post, as usual, Carol. I love the Erma Bombeck quote, too.
Happy 4th to you!

Great 4th of July photo, Carol. I ate my iffy potato salad, overcooked the steaks on the grill, and read all day long. I think you’d like the book I blogged about today. A garden is the “main character.”

Great quote! If you want to have some rain you should move to my country as we’re having far too much at the moment. It’s a pity I can’t sent some rain over to your place and to other gardeners who need it.

Quiet 4th here. I spent the whole day going thru my quilt fabric scraps and watching the TV marathon of “Monk”. Very exciting, huh?

Carol, what a lovely photo! I love hearing about your veggies. Wish I had room for more. Please check out my post for the 4th. I did some research on garden mysteries and came up with a few suggestions, although I have no first-hand knowledge of them.

All… thanks for the comments. It sounds as though all the garden bloggers had a good 4th of July holiday! It’s summertime, and time to enjoy the garden.

Happy Independence Day (a little late). We’ve had a weirdly cool, wet spring and early summer. And now we’re having a weirdly hot, dry midsummer. It’s all kinds of wonky out here in the Pacific Northwest. Like you, I’d love some rain right about now! ~A 🙂
