Win A Fiskars® Momentum™ Reel Mower!
This spring I’m looking forward to mowing the lawn more so than ever before because I have a new Fiskars® Momentum™ Reel Mower in my garage, ready to bring out for the first mowing of the season.
I recall fondly the final mowing of the season last year, my first time to mow with this new reel mower. What fun that was!
Soon, in just three or four weeks, I’ll roll out my new Fiskars® reel mower again and begin a whole new season of mowing the lawn.
Let the countdown begin
According to my garden journal, I’ve started mowing for the season as early as March 26th and and as late as April 7th. It all depends on the weather and how quickly it warms up. I hope this is an “early” year. We’ll see. All I know is that right now each day is warmer than the day before, crocuses are blooming like crazy and soon the grass will start growing again and be ready for me to mow it!
Thank you, once again, to Fiskars® who sent me that mower to review last fall.
And thanks to Fiskars® , one lucky reader/commenter will soon have a new Fiskars® Momentum™ Reel Mower to start their mowing season with, too.
There are two steps to enter this giveaway:
1. Add your name and blog or website url to the Mr. Linky Widget below. If you don’t have a blog or website, just enter www.fiskars.com for the url.
2. Leave a comment and tell us when you generally start mowing your lawn in the spring.
Other contest details…
Open to U.S. residents only, 18 years and older. Contest ends at 9:00 PM EDT on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Winner will be chosen by random number as generated by http://www.random.org/ with the assistance of one of my garden blogging friends, yet to be chosen, who has not entered the contest.
Please make sure you leave your email address in your comment or make sure that it is easy to find on your blog so I can contact you if you win. You do not have to have a blog to enter. Email addresses can be left disguised along the lines of Indygardener AT G Mail dot Com and I’ll figure them out.
One entry per person! However, if you tweet about the contest with a link on Twitter, post about it on your blog, or note it on your Facebook page, you can put your name and url in the Mr. Linky widget a second time and add a second comment with a link to your tweet/blog/Facebook entry for reference and double your chances of winning! (Maximum of two entries per person.)
Good luck to everyone!
Remember, all entries must be submitted by March 16, 2010, 9:00 PM EDT.
Update March 16th. The winner is entry number 33, Samia! Thank you to all who entered and thank you to Fiskars for allowing me to host this giveaway.

I've only lived in this house for a year so I can't say when I start mowing here. When I lived in North Carolina we really didn't have much of an off season. Mowing was just less frequent during the winter.
I do know that I failed to drain the gas from my mower last fall and now I'm not sure if it will even start this year. Good excuse to upgrade to a reel mower!

You do get some great products to try out. We haven't used a reel mower for years. Mowing should have been done a couple of weeks ago because the grass on our septic field is getting higher than the wildflowers. Now it will have to wait until after they have bloomed. This would be a great test for a reel mower. You have such great giveaways, Carol.Thanks.

We put off mowing at the end of last season, so the grass was pretty long during the winter- and will necessitate earlier mowing this spring. Oh my, I can't wait until it starts growing again! Also- high of 60+ in Indy today?! Hooray!

I would love this mower, my son has been asking me for the last couple of years to buy him one, but money was too tight. In Michigan, it really depends on when we first start mowing. If the spring is warm and dry, it can be the end of April. The last couple of years, though, it has been not until June.

A very cool prize! Generally I'll start mowing sometime in the next two weeks. So far though with the cold temperatures the grass hasn't really begun growing. It's been warm the last 4-5 days now so it should be breaking dormancy. The rains we'll get this week will be a good trigger – I can't wait to get mowing, I should probably not enjoy it so much!

In SE Florida, we usually start moving regularly in March, depending on the winter and type of grass, of course. I've mowed the "weeds" a couple of times this winter, but so far the Florida friendly Bahia is dormant due to this year's long winter.
Awesome giveaway! I HOPE I'm the lucky winner!!! 🙂

I'm so tempted to cheat by making up names and getting email addresses for them. This mower would be perfect for us. I don't usually record the first mowing of the year, although I seem to record the last one. Odd, that, but usually we start mowing around the end of April or the beginning May, after the Scilla have finished blooming. I know this because I have to fence around the ones in the lawn so my husband doesn't mow them down (there are always a few casualties).

My birthday is May 1 and I always try to give myself a birthday present by not mowing before May 2, if at all possible. In any case, I'm a proponent of tall grass so I let it grow in the spring to get strong and set my mowers as high as they'll go. I have both a B&D cordless electric mower I bought in 2002 and a Craftsman reel mower, both of which set to 3.5 inches though I'd prefer 4 inches. Right now, it's mid-March in Central Indiana and grass is nowhere near ready to mow.

We start mowing in March down here.
I've been using a reel mower for several years now love it — much easier on my lungs, tree roots, and the environment. Unfortunately, the one I have has worn out because it wasn't as well designed as it looks like this one is. My handles have gotten rickety.

I generally start mowing around Easter as the grass comes out of its winter slumber.

I started a couple years ago with a Sunlawn MM2 and realized the earlier I start my mowing season, the better my initial cuts go. So, as of last year I'll start my mowing season the last week of march. Here in NC the weather typically is just right to begin.

This February has been the earliest that we mowed – on Feb 24th – in Seattle. El nino probably has a part in that.

I live in the south, so we mow at least once a month, even through the winter. Thanks!
