“Open the seed packet”.
That’s my motto for this year.
Open the seed packet, sow those seeds, and enjoy whatever grows from them.
Of course within reason.
I don’t want to grow weeds.
But there will be a few weeds. I’ll just pull them out and enjoy whatever else comes up.
We sometimes spend our whole lives collecting seeds, putting them away for another day. But then slowly we figure out that life isn’t just about gathering seed.
It’s about sowing seeds, too.
There are lots of seeds to sow around here.
One seed packet at a time, I’m going to open them up. I’m going to sow seeds—all kinds of seeds in and out of the garden—and see what comes up.
Good stuff will come up, because that’s what I’ve saved seeds for.
It’s going to be fun.
You bet it is going to be fun. The anticipation of spring and planting is ramped-up when we get these January thaws.

I bought a lot of seeds during my vacation to England last year.( They have more seed varieties than we have in Austria) So far I sowed some gorgeous papaver somniferum varieties from Sarah Raven in September. Last year I sowed the poppy seeds in spring and they were´t doing so well. By another blogger I was advised to sow them in September already and indeed it works. They have grown a lot and the foliage even looks great now in winter. I also sowed some sweet peas in October. It was the first time that I sowed them so early. Last year I sowed them in spring, but reading that autumn grown sweet peas perform better during summer, I thought I should give it a try. I can´t wait to sow my other seeds (cosmos, zinnias, tomatoes). However the seed packet says that I should´t sow them before February/March. Guess I need to be patient till then.

I'm with you on this. I have packets od seeds that are years old and have never been opened not to mention the seeds I have collected and have no label. But i have started and the plan is to deal with all this year. Just germinated some tomato seeds that came from the Seattle Fling. How many years ago was that?

Thinking of seeds…I plan to start some indoors myself this March. Where to put anything is another story.
