I’m enjoying what I like to call The Wonder Years of Gardening in which I wander around and ask myself questions like:
I wonder what variety this rose is? (I honestly don’t know which leads to the next question of “I wonder where I put the tag for it?”)
I wonder where I left my gardening knife? (Under a bag of mulch in the wheelbarrow where it hid for a week.)
I wonder if I remembered to order nasturtium seeds? (I didn’t.)
Etc.
But wait, don’t new gardeners also wonder quite a bit?
I wonder if these seeds will work? (You better hope seeds work.)
I wonder if it is too early to plant tomatoes outside? (It probably is. New gardeners tend to think we are frost-free before we are really frost-free.)
I wonder if this spray will just kill mosquitoes and leave the bees alone? (It won’t. Put it down. Don’t use it.)
Etc.
And of course, kids wonder a lot in the garden too.
I wonder if my mom would like this flower if I pick it for her? (Of course your mom would love a pretty dandelion if you picked it for her.)
I wonder how many wishes I get when I blow dandelion seeds all over the garden? (As many wishes as you need plus one more.)
I wonder if garden fairies are real? (Of course they are real, see above about “I wonder where I left my gardening knife.” You could ask that question another way. “I wonder why the garden fairies keep hiding gardening tools around here?”)
Etc.
Oh my. I just realized… I wonder if every year is a Wonder Year of Gardening no matter how old you are or how long you’ve been gardening?
By golly, I think every year IS a Wonder Year of Gardening!
