Garden fairies here!
We are garden fairies and we have decided that it is time for us to provide another report on what is really going on around this garden.
We will start off by telling everyone what Carol is doing which because she is inherently lazy is going to be a rather short report.
We could make a longer report out of what she hasn’t been doing but should be doing, starting off with watering. Can a plant get a drink of water around here? So dry it is. We have watched as one plant after another has shriveled up and become like dust due to lack of water.
Now, we will say that some of the trees look pretty good with early fall color, like the maple tree we have pictured here, but it is not in Carol’s garden. She sees it on her twice daily walks.
We do appreciate that Carol is walking twice a day because that gives her more energy overall. Now we need her to use that energy to give the garden a good soaking before it gets all freezy-cold around here, especially if she is going to try to plant anything this fall. Then she most definitely, assuredly needs to water.
And it might be helpful for her to water her back lawn a bit if she expects to be able to easily plant those 500 Chionadoxa bulbs that arrived the other day. We admire that she is going to plant those in the lawn so they will hopefully be blooming on Easter next year. In fact, we encourage such industrious activity. We hope that doing begets doing and she does a bit more to get this garden ready for winter.
We are counting on her and hope she comes through for us. We hope she doesn’t do something stupid like last fall when she broke a little bone in her foot and had to resort to others doing the garden clean up. We need her to both be careful and be doing! We’ll task Seedy and Soddy with watching out for her to make sure she doesn’t trip and fall on a tool left on the ground.
Then Granny ‘Gus’ McGarden will use her mysterious ways to plant ideas in Carol’s head about what to do in the garden this fall. Following that, we’ll wait and watch and see what happens! That’s all we can do. We are garden fairies, after all. Not miracle workers!
