Don’t Assume I’ve Grown Every Flower

Don’t assume I’ve grown every flower you can grow in my hardiness zone just because I’ve been gardening pretty much my entire life in the same zone.

For example, I just started to grow what I like to call “summer alliums” a few years ago when an old friend gave me two big clumps of Allium ‘Millenium’ that he pulled out of a container planting.

I split those clumps into the individual bulbs and planted rows of them along several flower beds.

I took this picture a few weeks ago, just as the flowers were beginning to fade. They fade to a lovely silvery color. I’ll cut them off soon, though Allium ‘Millenium’ doesn’t really have viable seed so I don’t find it all over my garden like some plants I have. (I’m talking about you, Rudbeckia ‘Goldsturm’.)

And just in case you are thinking that I misspelled “millennium” not once but twice… the allium spelling of millennium is with just one n because that’s how they registered the name so now it will be forever misspelled.

And just to keep the record straight, the allium in the first picture is ‘Serendipity’ which is a tiny bit taller than ‘Millenium’ and in my garden blooms a few days later.

Good flowers to grow, and I just discovered them a few years ago.
