Garden fairies here. We are garden fairies and we have come here to provide important, meaningful, relevant updates, and a bit of news.
First, we are sounding the alarm that the surprise lilies are blooming, though with those big pink blooms, they don’t actually need sound to set a gardener’s heart a-flutter. No, not a-flutter because they are so pretty! A-flutter because they bloom at what we garden fairies like to call the beginning of the end of summer.
Now, no one should be running around like—no, we won’t mention the image of a chicken with its head cut off—really, don’t think too hard about that one. What we will say is no one should be running around like they are being chased by a bunch of stirred up wasps, but…
People ought to be getting on with whatever they thought they were going to do in the garden this season and just Get It Done. Yes, we are sending this message DIRECTLY to Carol as best we can, but we are garden fairies. We must work with certain limitations that require us to be stealthy and all and not be discovered.
By the way, out in the Vegetable Garden Cathedral, Granny ‘Gus’ McGarden is beside herself with embarrassment. No, not because of the weeds, though the weeds are getting bad again. You would think Carol would know that weeding is not a “once-and-done” activity but is something that must be done on a regular basis, while the weeds are small.
Sigh, we are garden fairies.
What Granny is most embarrassed by is that Carol’s “big” tomatoes haven’t turned red yet. There is one that is close.
But close as we head into the second full week of August is a disgrace. Hopefully, next year will be better.
Which is what gardeners, and we garden fairies, say every single year.
By the way, Granny is mortified that once again, though she knows better, Carol let two zucchinis grow to be the size of small clubs. Granny couldn’t do anything about them but watch and wait for Carol to come out and see for herself. Honestly, Carol should know to check Every Single Day for squash to pick. How long has she been gardening?
We are garden fairies and that is what we call a rhetorical question. Carol has been gardening long enough to know that squash must be checked daily.
Anyway, here is our bit of news. Carol’s latest book, Digging and Delighted: Live Your Best Gardening Life, is done and so what has she been doing? Using that goofy PhotoFunia app to put her book cover in all kinds of pictures. She even made a video of some of the pictures, with sound effects. Goofy. That is the only way to describe her book on a poster with goats eating it.
It’s even better on the video with the sound effect she chose.
We expect Carol’s monthly newsletter to be full of newsy bits and explanations about her new book, Digging and Delighted: Live Your Best Gardening Life. If you have not subscribed to it, we garden fairies suggest (command) that you do so now. The newsletter comes out the second Tuesday of the month, though last month it was Wednesday or Thursday of the second week before it came out. We are garden fairies, we don’t judge, we just report facts.
Anyway, Carol doesn’t have copies of her new book to sell yet, just copies to send out for reviews and look-sees, which she is happy to send to just about anyone who wants one and who has a U.S. mailing address, until she runs out of the review copies, so email her or comment if you want one. (We are garden fairies, we would not write that sentence if it wasn’t true.)
She is also waiting for her new book to magically show up on Bookshop before she tells people about buying it online.
We are garden fairies so we don’t have much else to say about this latest book except we are not mentioned nearly enough in it. So, we are taking matters into our own hands, and as a group, all of us… SweetPea Morningglory, Seedy and Soddy, Granny, and Ol’ Rainbow Tanglefly… will write our own book. I, Violet Greenpea Maydreams, will once again be on keyboard.
We are garden fairies.
